Authors for Kassidy Fights Cancer!

Hello everyone! I’m Markie Madden, author and founder of Metamorph Publishing. I’d like to tell you a story about a 12-year-old girl by the name of Kassidy. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October of 2016. NHL is a type of cancer that originates in the tissues of the lymph nodes. It’s similar to leukemia, and in fact, there’s an entire non-profit organization called the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (visit their website at

Kassidy will be going through a rigorous regime of chemotherapy treatments in order to rid her child’s body of the lymphoma cells. In fact, on November 7, 2016, she went to the hospital for surgery to install a port, a central IV line going through the chest and directly to the heart. This is for delivery of the chemo drugs, as they are so damaging to tissue and cells they must be given directly in the heart, so the pressure of the heart pumping can dilute the chemo before it goes out into the body. Kassidy will also be getting a procedure called a bone marrow biopsy while she’s asleep for surgery, and she’s scheduled to get her first treatment as well. She and her family have a long road ahead. You can offer her words of encouragement by liking and commenting on her Facebook page. You can also use her hashtag #kassidycan when you share on social media!

How do I know so much about it? I, myself, had leukemia back in 2013, so I’m well aware of the journey Kassidy faces. I’m in remission myself, but the chemo treatments almost took my life. I understand the stress and heartache Kassidy’s family are experiencing at this moment in time; my family went through the exact same thing.

Want to know how you can help? Perfect! There is a GoFundMe currently underway for Kassidy and her family, and you can find it here: If you’re reading this and you’re an author (or know authors), we’re having an Authors for Kassidy Fights Cancer reader extravaganza event coming in March on Facebook: Authors can donate books, swag, novelty items related to books, t-shirts, etc for the event using this form: When the event starts in March, readers will be able to select books at a reduced price from MSRP and purchase them. We are also selling t-shirts and mugs with Kassidy’s favorite animal, the horse, via Teespring at this link:

Sharing this information is extremely helpful, even if you’re not able to donate. And if you are able to donate, let me thank you ahead of time for your kind and generous heart. Also, if you’re medically able to, donating blood for use in transfusions is a wonderful thing. I lost track of how many units of blood I was given during my treatment, and those transfusions allowed the doctors to keep me alive through the rigorous treatment. You can also donate platelets, and even bone marrow (this procedure is no longer intensive and painful for the donor), so if you haven’t already, go over to Be the Match at and see if you can become a marrow donator!
